The National Will Register offers a secure way for individuals to register and search the location of a will
The National Will Register in the UK provides a secure and centralised way for individuals to record the location of their will, ensuring it can be easily located after death. It is intended for members of the public and is particularly valuable to solicitors, will writers, family members, charitable and non-profit organisations, as well as financial institutions.
Anyone can log the latest version of a will and its storage details at any time. Importantly, the will does not physically have to be moved in order to be registered or updated, remaining in possession with the chosen will writer or solicitor. After a person dies, the executors and beneficiaries can also perform an online search.
There are several options available:
Will Register Search - a straightforward search for records within the National Will Register with over 10 million records available
Will Search Combined - a comprehensive geographical search and using partnership resources and collaborating with legal bodies such as the IPW and SWW
Will Search COP - a specialised Court of Protection option supporting individuals with lost testamentary capacity to support deputyship and power of attorney processes
